    Arid Lands Information Network (ALIN) is an International NGO that facilitates information and knowledge exchange to and between extension workers or infomediaries and arid lands communities in Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania. The information exchange activities focus on small-scale sustainable agriculture, climate change adaptation, natural resources management and other livelihood issues.

    Aptivate is a UK based NGO that provides IT services for international development. Their speciality lies in challenges like low bandwidth, high data volume needs. Aptivate supports Practical Actions role in the Zurich Flood Resilience Alliance by giving workshops in the UK, Peru and Nepal, and helping us develop the flood solutions catalogue by determining the needs of potential end users of this catalogue.

  • The Cathy Rich Memorial Food Processing Training Centre +

    The Cathy Rich Memorial Food Processing Training Centre was established in 1992 by Practical Action South Asia in memory of Practical Action's food processing programme officer, who was killed in a road accident in Sri Lanka. The centre facilitates development by solving food enterprise-based problems, with an emphasis on small and micro units, using appropriate technologies and services. It is now a fully-autonomous institute, acting as a centre for excellence in small scale food processing.
  • Chartered Institute of Architectural Technologists (CIAT) +

    Chartered Institute of Architectural Technologists (CIAT) is helping Practical Action's projects in Peru, safeguarding parts of the Amazon rainforest around the settlements of the local people. Instead of having to cut down trees to make a living, CIAT and Practical Action are helping local farmers to create stable and sustainable farms.
  • Consult for Management, Training and Technologies (FAKT) +

    Consult for Management, Training and Technologies (FAKT) is a non-profit consultancy firm which was founded in 1986 to improve the social and economic conditions in developing and transformation countries. FAKT consultants are professionals from economic, social and technical backgrounds, they provide partner organisations in the South with advisory services and search for new perspectives and sustainable solutions.

    Duryog Nivaran is a network of individuals and organizations working in South Asia who are committed to promoting the alternative perspectives on disaster and vulnerability as a basis for disaster mitigation in the region.
  • Engineers Without Borders UK (EWB-UK) +

    Engineers Without Borders UK (EWB-UK) and Practical Action have worked together on a number of activities over recent years. Volunteer work taken up by EWB-UK members has been particularly valuable to the technical information service in updating and improving the information and translating technical briefs from English to other languages. Practical Action and EWB-UK have also worked together on the GDEE project, focused on bringing a global perspective to technical subjects at university level. Until recently, the Practical Action revolving internship was managed through EWB-UK.

  • Global Dimension in Engineering Education (GDEE) +

    The Global Dimension in Engineering Education (GDEE) is a collaborative initiative between Universities and NGOs, which aims to increase the integration of sustainable human development issues into technical University courses. Specific resources include case studies to use as teaching materials, and course days and workshops.

    Global Open Data for Agriculture and Nutrition (GODAN) is an initiative that seeks to support global efforts to make agricultural and nutritional data available, accessible, and usable for unrestricted use worldwide. There are 117 public and private members of the network, including donors, international organisations, non-profits, and businesses.

    Household Energy Development Organizations Network (HEDON) was set up in 1992 to act as a focal point for those working in the field in household energy. It aims to promote links among the diverse organizations working in this field, including NGOs, government agencies, and consultancies.
  • Information Network on Post-harvest Operations (INPhO) +

    Information Network on Post-harvest Operations (INPhO)  was designed by the UN Food and Agriculture organisation in partnership with GIZ and CIRAD in 1996. The principal objectives of INPhO are to promote best practice in post-harvest activities for agricultural products and to assist in the expansion of agribusiness by providing easy access to technical data and information.

  • Policy Innovation Systems for Clean Energy Security (PISCES) +

    Policy Innovation Systems for Clean Energy Security (PISCES) was a five-year DFID-funded research project aimed at providing new policy-relevant knowledge and innovation around the use of bioenergy. It has led to a range of information on more sustainable energy practices and increased access to energy for the rural and urban poor in the target countries of Kenya, Tanzania, India and Sri Lanka, and beyond.     READ Global is an organisation creating self-sustaining, community-owned libraries in India, Bhutan and Nepal. Practical Action is working with READ, using their libraries as a contact point for small-scale technology information for local people.
  • Sparknet +

    Sparknet is a knowledge network on sustainable energy for low-income households in rural areas in Southern and Eastern Africa. Key themes include household energy and health, household energy and gender, and household energy and forestry.
  • Sudan University of Science and Technology (SUST) +

    Sudan University of Science and Technology (SUST) Practical Action Sudan has been working with SUST in making information more widely available for those working in academia and those working in development. This collaboration helps bring together the two different areas of focus.

    Tekniker is a technological centre not-for-profit foundation which aims to help the industrial sector increase its innovative capacity. It has been translating Practical Action's technical briefs on energy into Spanish on a voluntary basis.
  • Translators Without Borders +

    Practical Action is also grateful for the contribution made by Translators Without Borders who have recently taken on the task of developing the range Practical Action’s technical briefs.
  • Worldwide Helpers +

    Worldwide Helpers is a non profit social networking site created to foster partnerships between volunteers and charitable organisations worldwide. It commits itself to removing the financial barriers of volunteering by providing only low/no cost projects. It raises awareness of organisations whilst at the same time providing them with the manpower and knowledge they need to survive.

    Zurich Flood Resilience Alliance is a new programme to build community resilience to disasters, especially flooding, and support the development of innovative tools and approaches to improve the wellbeing of vulnerable communities. Practical Action bring our technical innovation on the ground in challenging environments, as well as the mechanisms for sharing learning from those innovations.
